Regional Extension Committees
While the DEC operates at a strategic level across the state, Regional Extension Committees are responsible for overseeing the delivery of programs in each region.
What are they and what do they do?
Northern Irrigation and Riverina The Regional Extension Committee function is to:

Influence the strategic planning process through Murray Dairy and the Extension Program Strategy Group.

Develop a 3 year extension delivery plan in line with Murray Dairy and Extension Program Strategy Group plans for extension across the region, including objectives, approaches and key performance indicators.

Oversee the implementation of the delivery plan.

Review progress on the deliviery plan regularly.

Planning regional response.

Manage the infomration flow through industry (eg national program delivery).

Access and manage funding

Provide feedback to investors on a regular basis to build relationships.

Provide feedback to the State Consulatative Group and program Manager.

Develop and maintain networks with other key stakeholders in Dairy RD&E across the state.

Develop and maintain an effective communication plan.

South West Regional Extension Committee

The SW REC is calling for expressions of interest from farmers and service providers. Please use this Application Form if interested. Closing date is 8 July 2010
The purpose of the South West Regional Extension Committee is to:
1. Influence extension delivery in South West Victoria using the regional strategic plan (Down The Track Dairy 2020) as a guide. 2. Identify emerging regional issues and oversee a coordinated response.
To achieve its purpose the committee will:
Influence extension delivery by:
1. Mapping extension activities in the region. 2. Inviting stakeholders to inform the group of extension projects to be delivered in the SW. 3. Identifying extension gaps and needs in South West Victoria. 4. Building its reputation and relationships with extension providers and industry.
Act as a reference group by:
1. Establishing itself as the key regional reference point for consultation on extension programs. 2. Developing a process to have input into the DEC program development cycle.
Oversee regional response activities by:
1. Assisting the DEC in developing & delivering short term crisis response activities. 2. Developing procedures to respond to unforseen events affecting the dairy industry.

Committees have been set up in each of the three dairy regions of Victoria - Gippsland, South West Victoria and Northern Victoria.
Each has a slightly different make-up to suit the community it represents.
